Fresh water was probably a constant concern for the city's administration. In addition to the numerous cisterns found within the remains of dwellings and other buldings around the site there was also a large central cistern for the collection and storage of water. This deep chamber was sunk straight into the rock
^ Remains of steps which would have led down approx 8m from the surface to the water collection point ^
^ The fenced off area marks the position of the cistern ^
^ Another view down with the remains of many of the Stoa's columns ^
