With almost 80 steps rising from the entrance up to the Portico walls and Agora this is essentially the commercial and domestic thoroughfare for the city. A wall with towers running on the northerly side (left) of the street marks the edge of the terraces which were built into the steep bank with predominantly two room houses. On the southerly side (right) of the street were shops, workshops and the likes.

As you reach the top you face the remains of the western wall of one of the massive towers which sit either side of the Prytaneion steps. To reach the Agora you follow the 'street' with this and the portico wall (running north to south) on your left. The existence of the remains of another wall at right angles to to this could possibly be evidence of yet another gate or merely a buttress to strengthen the huge structures above.
